6 Ways to Spruce Up Your Bedroom For Spring

With March nearly upon us we’ve been looking at ways we can get our home ready for Spring. One room that is often neglected is the main bedroom. Whilst other rooms are more public, the fact that this is probably not used much during the day, and is the least visited room when people come round, can mean it gets overlooked. But when you remember that we spend about one third of our lives asleep, it’s clear that our bedrooms also need a bit of thought and attention. So, here are 6 simple ways to spruce up your bedroom for spring and breathe new life into this important space in your home.

1.Capture the essence of Spring

Bring Nature indoors and give your bedroom an instant refresh. Forage for broken blossom branches, or pick some daffodils or snowdrops from the garden. Pots of white muscari look sweet on a nightstand, and pussy willow stems add some simple elegance.

2.De-clutter

Now is the perfect time to sort through all that stuff that has piled up over the winter. Heaps of clothes or books, papers that need sorting or mending that you just haven’t got round to doing all serve as a drain on your energy. Shift this by assessing what you really need and what you can let go. Start with the essentials, like your basic wardrobe items, then find the precious books, photographs and other things that make you truly happy. Put these away. Anything else that’s left can probably be given to Goodwill or sold at a yard sale when the weather gets better.

3.Choose a Spring-inspired palette

Soft clouds of dusky pink blossoms, sharp rain showers, green shoots pressing up through the earth and pale yellows all make up Nature’s Springtime palette. Draw inspiration from this and choose similar tones and shades.

If you are keen to do a more radical makeover, work out a palette that will harmonise across the room. Choose the same paint shade for walls and woodwork, then add splashes of muted colour and layers of accessories like soft linen cushions, snuggly wool throws and a few well-chosen, carefully selected trinkets and pictures to stamp your personality on your bedroom.

4.Rotate your wardrobe

While there is still a chill in the air and frosty nights are not uncommon you don’t want to put away all your winter clothes, but there will be some woollies and heavier items that can be stored away now. Make sure that garments are clean and dry before you put them away, and use tissue paper to store delicate items. Seal in secured bags to prevent moth damage. If you put away your lighter clothes and dresses at the end of the summer, now’s the time to get them out. Give them a shake and hang to air, or run them through a quick wash to refresh.

5.Change your curtains

If you use heavy drapes over winter now is the time to get them cleaned and store them away. Instead, opt for linen drapes which add texture and depth to your bedroom, whilst still keeping the warmth in and most of the light out. In a small room pick drapes in a similar colour to the walls to create a unified finish that tricks the eye into thinking the room is bigger than it is.

6.Don’t be afraid of the dark

Whilst Spring is all about lightness and fresh colour, a pop of something darker always looks great in a bedroom. A painting with a black palette, some dark green or grey linen bedlinen, or a print with deep blues all create an introspective, calm feel that’s perfect for the bedroom.
