A Midsummer Wishlist: What's on Yours?
With the summer solstice last Friday it finally feels like summer has arrived. When the seasons change there's a shift in energy, and for us summer is all about being outdoors as much as possible. So, we thought we'd gather together some of our midsummer must-haves to create a wishlist that should see us through to Autumn, and be ready to use again next summer.
From picnics in the park to city breaks exploring new places, these are our dream summer essentials:
A handy pocket knife
Since staying in France as an exchange student we've associated the distinctive Opinel pocket knives with hot days, ripe cheeses and slices of warm peach. They are foldable, so stay secure when packed, and you can use them for everything for some spontaneous rose-pruning to slicing sausages by the campfire.
A breezy linen dress
A lightweight, moisture-wicking dress that will keep you feeling cool and looking fabulous? Too good to be true? Not with linen. One simple, understated linen dress is a summer wardrobe staple, whether thrown on over a swimsuit on the beach or for comfortable work days in the office. Embracing the natural creases also means there's no need to worry about ironing, which makes a linen dress the perfect travel companion. This one is our current fave.
Collapsible carry cup
A clever collapsible cup will stash neatly away in your day bag, ready for an iced tea or frappuccino on-the-move. Keeping one of these with us every day is a simple, easy way to reduce waste and the number of disposable cups that are discarded every year.
A tiffin for al fresco eating
Far nicer and easier to carry than lots of tupperware boxes, a stainless steel tiffin is a great way to bring meals outside and stay plastic-free. There's something delightful about taking off each compartment to reveal what's underneath too.
A cute basket bag
Sling your book, water bottle, purse, sunscreen, linen towel and swimsuit into a cute basket and you're set for any summer adventure. You can use it for shopping too, and they look pretty hanging up on a hook when you're not using them. The perfect nod to country living, wherever you are.
